Owerri is the capital city of Imo state, Nigeria. It is regarded the heart of igboland, thus, the eastern heartland. Owerri has 3 Local Government Areas, they are: Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West. It was estimated to be populated with about 401,873 people in 2006 and is approximately 100 square kilometres (40 sq mi) in area.
