About Gwer, Nigeria
Gwer is a Local Government Area (LGA) located in Benue state, Nigeria. It was created in 1976 out of Makurdi local government with its headquarters at Aliade tow. The name of the LGA was gotten from the Gwer River. It is bordered by Makurdi in the North-East, Gboko in the East, Konshisha in the Southeast, Obi and Oju in the South, Otukpo in the Southwest; and Gwer West in the West. The local government has 14 council wards. The rich and fertile soil in the local government enables the production of agricultural produce such as soybeans, cassava, beniseed, groundnuts, rice, yams and citrus which can provide sufficient raw materials for agro-allied industries in the area.
Gwer local government is endowed with mineral resources which can be effectively tapped by investors. There is salt deposit at Mbayom in Nghohov District. This salt deposit is locally exploited and baked for local consumption. Clay deposit is found in Akpachi District in large commercial quantity. As for now, the clay deposit is exploited locally for molding of pots which alternate for cooking utensils. Some of these are also used for serving dishes and interior decoration for homes. The local government has some tourist centers, they include: Ikwe wildlife part and Holiday Resort at Ikwe near Igbor.
