About Abeokuta South, Ogun
Abeokuta South is Local Government Area (LGA) in Ogun state, Nigeria. It has its headquarters at Ake Abeokuta. Abeokuta South Local Government is usually referred to as the Premier Local Government, owing to the historic eminence of that geographical entity as the traditional seat of the Local or Native Authority in Egba since 1898 as well as the seat of the Government of Ogun State that came into existence in 1976. This area was created in September, 1991, during General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida's Adminstration.
The religions practiced here are Christianity, Islam and Traditional religions. People of Abeokuta south experience three festival annually, they are: Egungun, Igunuko, Oro. The LGA of Abeokuta South is divided into 15 wards for the purpose of electing councillors into the local government council. These wards are Ake 1, Ake 2, Ake III(Adatan/Lantoro) , Emere, Ijemo, Itoko, Ijaiye/Idi-Aba, Erunibe/Ijoko/Ilogbo/Oke-Ejigbo, Oke Ijeun, Ago Ijesha/Ijeun-Titun/Ago-Egun, Sodeke/Isale Ijeun I, Sodeke/Isale Ijeun II, Oke-Yeye/Imo/Isabo, Igbore/Itori/Ago-Oba, and Ibara.
