About Ohimini, Benue
Ohimini is a Local Government Area (LGA) located in Benue state, Nigeria. It was created in December, 1996 from the old Otukpo Local Government. It shares boundaries with Otukpo Local Government Area in the North and East, Okpokwu Local Government in the West and Olamaboro and Ankpa Local Government Areas of Kogi State in the South. The inhabitants of the local government area are predominantly Idoma-speaking people, one of the largest ethnic groups in the state. Ohimini local government comprises of two district areas: Oyagede and Oglewu. These were further subdivided into ten political units/council wards.
Ohimini Local Government is predominantly an agrarian local government with yams, guinea corn, groundnut, maize, cassava, beniseed and beans forming the major produce. Others crops include ginger, pepper, bambara nut, peanuts and fruits such as oranges, mangoes, pineapple, cashew among others. The local government is equally endowed with abundant natural and mineral resources. Theses is a coal deposit in Oyagede area of the Local government. Other natural resources include thick virgin forest in Ogodu and Amoke in Onyagede as well as Ochobo wards.
