About Mkpat-Enin, Nigeria
Mkpat-Enin is a Local Government (LGA) in Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. It has its capital/headquarters located in the town of Mkpat-Enin. The Local Government is bounded by Ikot Abasi, Eastern Obolo, Oruk Anam, Onna and Etinan Local Government Areas. The people are traditionally Ibibio speakers. There are abundant mineral deposits in the LGA, they include: crude oil and gas.
Oil was discovered in Ikot Akpa/Ekop , Mkpat Enin Local Government Area as far back as 1953. Forest reserves include timber, wood, palm produce. Trading, farming and hunting are common activities carried out by the people of this Local Government Area. The rich cultural heritage is exhibited in Ekpo, Atat and Ekong masquerades and traditional dances.
