About Taraba, Nigeria
Taraba is a state located in the northern part of Nigeria. Its capital city is known as Jalingo. Taraba state is named after the Taraba River which traverses the southern part of the state. The state was created out of the former Gongola State on 27th August, 1991 by the Military Government of General Ibrahim Babangida. Taraba is bound by Bauchi and Gombe state to the northern part, Plateau and Nassarawa state to the western part and Adamawa state to the eastern part.
Taraba has 16 local government: Ardo Kola, Bali, Donga, Gashaka, Gassol, Ibi, Jalingo, Karim Lamido, Kurmi, Lau, Sardauna, Taku, Ussa, Wukari, Yorro, Zing. The major tribe found in this state is Hausa and it is the major language spoken by dwellers in the state. Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Taraba State. Cash crops produced in the state include coffee, tea, groundnuts and cotton. Crops such as maize, rice, sorghum, millet, cassava, and yam are also produced in commercial quantity.
