About Yala, Nigeria
Yala is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Cross River state, Nigeria. Yala Local Government Area is in the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State with its capital/headquarters located in te town of Okpoma. The Local Government Area was created on August 27, 1999 and is bounded in the North by Benue State, in the South by Ikom and Obubra Local Government Areas, in the East by Ogoja Local Government Area and in the West by Ebonyi State.
The major economic activities in the area are, agriculture, fishing, mining and trading. It is endowed with rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions. There is the Okpama Salt pond at Okpoma and the Lugard wall at Gabu/Alifokpa. Some of the cultural/traditional festivals are the new Yam festival and Age Grades system. The traditional market days are Ikor, Akpakpa, Egana, Ekwok, Lihir, Ebi and Igeke. Drugs are procured for all health centres as well as the purchase and supply of beds and bedding to all health districts.
