Obowo (also spelled as Obowu) is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Imo state, Nigeria. It has its headquarters in Otoko. Towns in Obowo local government area include: Umuagu, Umungwa, Umulogho, Avutuand Umuokeh. The area is right across the Imo River and is less than 30 minutes from the Umuahia and Ahiara in opposite directions; with the seven and half (7&1/2) junction landmark in-between. Obowo is an Igbo speaking area.

Towns and commercial centres in Obowo LGA include Achingali, Eke-Avutu, Ugwumabiri, Ogwoghoroanya, Obgotoukwu, Seven and half, Afor-udu, Nwokoisiama, Ekeja etc. The Local Government presently houses about twenty-two autonomous communities. Dwellers in Obowo engage in farming and fishing. With the globalization of the world economy, people of Obowo now embrace varied areas of industrial services, ranging from manufacturing to communications.
