About Maru, Nigeria
Zamfara is a state situated in northwestern part of Nigeria. Its capital city is Gusau. The languages spoken in the state are Hausa, Fulfulde and Arabic, while it's official language is English. Islam and Christianity are the principal and major religions of the state. Zamfara state was created on 1st of October, 1996 by General Sani Abacha. It was carved out of the old Sokoto state. The area of the state is estimated to be 39,762 km.
The state was the first in Nigeria to introduce Sharia law. Zamfara is bound by Sokoto State on the North, Niger and Kaduna States on the South, Kebbi State on the West, and Katsina State on the East. Agriculture is the most important occupation of the people of the state, hence its slogan "farming is our pride". Local Government Areas in the state are: Zurmi, Maradun, Talata Mafara, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Bungudu, Chafe, Maru, Anka, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Bakura, Birin Magaji/Kiyaw and Shinkafi.
